Project Description
While retaining the original unit configuration this renovation explores a series of material and formal interventions that reinvigorate and energize all the spaces.
Design Concept & Execution
A new Wood Wall was introduced inside the Living Room as an Anchoring and Spatial element. Through the careful detailing of an Architectural material a unique and contemporary Piece of Ornament was created.
The generous sized bedroom forms a serene and calm refuge from the rest of the unit. The white feature wall and abundant cabinets refract light and become a display device for valued client objects within the space.
Repetition brings out elements of simplicity in design. The harmonic array of a Georgian Paneled Wall adds depth to a surface and gives the bedroom a taller appearance.
To compliment the richness of an adjacent Wood Wall and the dominance of the colour white in the Apartment a neutral gray accent colour was selected for the New Kitchen. Centred on the existing floor plan, the colour codifies this functional space and anchors the entire unit.
The fitted closets are built into the walls so that they appear to take up no apparent space in the bedroom. Read as another surface, the white cabinets refract light and read as another feature wall in the Apartment.
